Los Rangers de Texas han tenido éxito en respaldar sus afirmaciones de querer traer de vuelta el béisbol ganador como sus grandes equipos de principios de la década de 2010 que hicieron Series Mundiales consecutivas.
Una temporada baja después de firmar a Corey Seager, Marcus Semien y Jon Gray, han añadido más refuerzos. Los Rangers siguen gastando a lo grande añadiendo al mejor lanzador de todo el béisbol en Jacob deGrom y Andrew Heaney.
Pero antes de salir y firmar agentes libres contrataron al legendario Bruce Bochy como manager para las próximas tres temporadas. En ese mismo periodo de tiempo, deGrom ha sido seleccionado para tres partidos de las estrellas, ha logrado 876 ponches y ha ganado dos veces consecutivas el premio CY Young de la Liga Nacional.
Con su recta eléctrica, que pasa como un rayo por la caja del bateador, y su deslizador de otro mundo, que se sitúa en los 90 mph, es simplemente «deGrominante».
«Escuchar la visión de lo que los Rangers querían hacer… se alineó con lo que yo quería hacer». Dijo deGrom en su conferencia de prensa introductoria agregando, «traer una Serie Mundial aquí esa es la meta».
Los Rangers están enfocados en el panorama a largo plazo mientras implementan una estrategia de ganar-ahora. Con las adiciones de DeGrom, Gray y Heaney no sólo están abordando su problema más flagrante, sino que también están construyendo una rotación en torno a sus dos mejores prospectos de pitcheo.
Jack Leiter, a quien seleccionaron con la segunda selección general del draft de MLB de 2021, y Kumar Rocker, a quien seleccionaron con la tercera selección general en 2022. World Series Hopefuls: The Rangers are Coming

The Texas Rangers have been successful in backing their claims of wanting to bring winning baseball back like their great teams of the early 2010s that made back-to-back World Series.
One off-season removed from signing Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Jon Gray, they’ve added more reinforcements. The Rangers continue to spend big adding the best pitcher in all of baseball in Jacob deGrom and Andrew Heaney.
But before they went out and signed free agents, they hired the legendary Bruce Bochy as manager for the next three seasons. Bochy was the manager during the San Francisco Giants dynasty of the early 2010s that saw them win three championships in a five-year span. That first championship was against his new team, the Rangers, where the Giants won the series in five games.
DeGrom inked a five-year deal worth $185 million with an average annual value of $37 million, making him the third highest-paid pitcher in baseball and Heaney signed a two-year deal worth $25 million with an opt-out.
Last season saw the Rangers post an ERA of 4.22, ranking them as the eighth-worst ERA by a club with opponents’ batting .247 against them.
With the addition of deGrom alone they’ve thrust themselves into the conversation of one of the best pitching rotations.
Since 2018 deGrom has been the best pitcher, putting himself in a tier of his own while his peers try to keep up. In 645.1 innings pitched from 2018 to 2022, he ranks first in ERA (2.05), opponent OPS(.530), fWAR (25.6), and ranks second in WHIP (0.87), and opponent batting average holding them to a measly .188 clip.
In that same time frame, deGrom has been selected for three All-star games, racked up 876 strikeouts, and won back-to-back National League CY Young awards.
With his electric fastball that just zooms past the batter’s box and an otherworldly slider that sits in the low 90s mph, that’s simply “deGrominant”.
“Hearing the vision of what the Rangers wanted to do… it lined up with what I wanted to do.” Said deGrom in his introductory press conference adding, “bringing a World Series here that’s the goal.”
The Rangers are focused on the long-term picture while implementing a win-now strategy. With the additions of DeGrom, Gray and Heaney not only are they addressing their most glaring issue, but they are also building a rotation around their two best pitching prospects.
Jack Leiter whom they selected with the second overall pick of the 2021 MLB draft, and Kumar Rocker whom they selected with the third overall pick in 2022. If Leiter and Rocker live up to their potential, the Rangers could have the best rotation in the league with their three-headed monster of DeGrom, Leiter, and Rocker. A lot of teams would want to avoid this stellar pitching trio in the playoffs.
The Rangers are looking to end their playoff drought, not having played in the postseason since 2016 when they got swept by the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL division series. In addition to their playoff drought, the Rangers have never won a World Series.
Not only are they spending money and signing big-name free agents they also have a farm system loaded with talent that ranks sixth in the MLB with six prospects making MLB’s top 100.
Third baseman Josh Jung is the Ranger’s top prospect, and he got some playing time in September as a late call-up this season. While his short stint may not have resulted in the way he or Ranger fans alike would’ve hoped for, he provided them with enough hope and excitement validating why he is their number-one ranked prospect. Another top prospect of the Rangers to look out for is Justin Foscue, a power-hitting second baseman who has hit 32 home runs in 163 minor-league games.
“When I look at this team and I look at the core players, and the deep system and the vision that C.Y. has, I get excited. I just see tons of potential for next year and years beyond,» said Bochy.
